Yenice - Gönen Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant

Description

At the dam Gönen and its hydroelectric power plant, located on the river Gönen, 30 km to the south of the district Gönen, ensure the irrigation of a 20,569-hectare agricultural area in Plains Gönen and Tahirova, the protection of a 6,200-hectare agricultural area against floods, and the generation of 47.5 GWh of power per year. The dam is a structure 78 m-high from the foundation, of a "zoned soil + rock backfill" type, with a crest length of 293 meters and a storage volume of 210,000,000 m³, and having 6 radial gates, each sized to 8.77 x 6.90 m, and a filled sluice with a 2,785 m³ splash sill. Under the dam construction, 18-km access road from the dam Gönen to Gönen was made including 5,000,000 m³ excavation and filling works and various artworks performed. The power plant is a 17.00 x 31.50 m. semi-embedded facility with two 5.3 MW units using Fransic-brand vertical-axis turbines to generate 47.5 GWh of power per year.
